Jerry,
In further discussions with the radio people, it was decided to use the cable for the 2-meter and 440 bands since it was already there.

Just got 2 WRT54GS units off of eBay and have them working together. Ran around the neighborhood in my car, and not a peep from anyone else on the status page.
I live in draper, so perhaps I can find a point to point connection to someone in Sandy or South Jordan? More likely Sandy though due to the freeway but I'm game to try.
I will probably be building either a coil or bi-quad receiver into an old satellite dish and see how that works.
If there is anyone else in Draper, get with me, and let's connect! |

A fellow ham, Greg Mauere, KB9KPD, has roof rights at the Altius building 10421 South Jordan Gateway, South Jordan, UT as well as this building on the west edge of the Jordan river bench - 881 Baxter with decent visibilty of the south east corner of the Salt Lake valley. I asked if it might be possible to put some HSMM-Mesh nodes on these building and he said he'd be open to it. I toasted my Linksys. Tossing this out to the broader group to see if anyone wants to pursue this.

Nothing been posted here in over four months so I will add stuff. I have added a half-watt amp to my Hamnet 8 dbi antenna in East Mill Creek and it is still running at the same location. SLCC has added a node on top of their Technology Building. It is my understanding that a node has been placed or will be placed on Ensign Peak shortly.
There are a few groups pursuing setting up WiFi in many areas in Salt Lake and and Davis Counties. Some are using the Hamnet software and some are using the Ubiquiti Bullets. I have heard that someone was able to use Hamnet on the Ubiquiti Bullet.
I am hoping that this forum doesn't die. We still need it in spite of all the in-person meetings happening across the valley. |

I have three WRT54G V4 units that I hope to get up in the next week or so. A 25DBi parabolic and 15DBi omni are going on the roof of my two story house. Two, eight watt amps are on order as well. Before putting the units in service, I,ll be doing the USB mod to each of them. My home is about one block west of Chelsea Meadows park in Layton.

8 watt amps are WAY overkill my friend. If you figure out the EIRP, 8w into 25dbi is more than the oven in your kitchen! (2KW at microwave freq !)
We are talking DANGER WILL ROBINSON! DANGER! *arms flailing*
I suggest get the antennas up, and try to make the links first, before adding any more power. This aint no VHF/HF stuff where you just willy-nilly throw a big amp on thinking it will help no matter what. FURTHEST FROM THE TRUTH ! If you cant make the connection with high gain dishes and stock power, then MAYBE a half-watt. If you get a flaky connection then bump it up another half-watt.2 watts should be the max into a dish.
If you still cant get a connection, then you need to rethink the path profile, and maybe add repeater nodes or the aiming of the dishes, etc.
But 8W, e-gads! If thats what it takes, I prefer to use a chainsaw (to remove the obstructions). KTF

Team Talk on mesh node
Hi tonight while the super bowl was going I decide to turn on my two nodes and install Team Talk Client server on my Laptop connected to one node.
I then had a client on another laptop connected to another node.
Team Talk allows you to do a lot. voice and text chat and video. and file sharing.
my OS on client-server was windows 7 pro. and the other laptop has windows 7 home premium. the server needed the firewall opened and then I was able to connect the two via ip address. I need to know can I set up a welcome page so hams can conect to my Team Talk server???

I am told the node on Farnsworth Peak is gone. Owner on a mission.
I have 7 nodes in Tooele County. My path to Grantsville is fubar due to apartments built in my path.
All dressed up and nowhere to go. Clear path to Farnsworth from home and hospital.
Three 16 db patch antennas. Chinese so figure is suspect. Two yagi, same concern. Some omnis, same source.
We need Farnsworth Peak. Any idea of how toroceed? |

Greetings All, My name is Chris (K2CTC) and I just purchased a WRT54GL to configure as a HSMM-MESH node. The device has not arrived yet, but I am excited to play with the technology. I would appear that this forum is the place to be if you are in Utah and interested in mesh. I will post an update once I get things up and running. |

A quick note: On September 20 (this coming Saturday) there will be a Prepare Fair at the LDS Church and the Canyon Rim Academy. These buildings are directly north of the Canyon Rim Park on 2900 East and between 3000 and 3100 South. It lasts from 9 am to 3 pm. Grant Gardner and myself will have four mesh nodes running with cameras on three of them. You are welcome to come check on the mesh hardware and configurations and take in the fair. The church will be set up with a Red Cross shelter and will have VOAD speaking. The school will house vendors. |

Gary, I'll be moving out near Newton before the end of the year. I don't think we'll have a problem connecting once I'm up there. I'd love to try! - Joe, KF7NWA Joe@JoeLevi.com
[AG1T 2012-08-02- 13:38:43]: I have set up a node here is Nibley (just south of Logan). I am working on getting a couple of others setup as well. Hoping to get some vpn tunnels worked out as well.

I just ordered 4 wrt54g v2.2's off ebay. I'm in an apartment with no ability to do HF, satellites or most anything else I'm interested in. I have a short range iGate running as well as an echolink proxy (both on raspberry pi) so I figured I'd try my hand at HSMM-MESH as well.

Did you get a GS as well so that you can tunnel? Or just the G models? |

I be meshin!!! Got 2 nodes up, one is my internet gateway, the other has a old apple airport express hooked to it. I'm able to ping the internet from that node, so all is well(ish)
Next project is to add a third node, and then ride my motorcycle up to Lake Mountain HP and see if I can join my mesh and others from there. I need to tuck a directional antenna back on my balcony so no one sees it, pointed at Lake Mountain HP.
I'm probably a few weeks away from that since my bike is in the shop.
It would be nice to resurrect the proposed project to put a node up there permanently. Anyone up for working on that with me? I dont even know where to start or who to talk to. Is there a repeater up there? |
