Good Afternoon Everyone,

So I went ahead and updated some of my nodes to the new 1.1 firmware.  I seem to have hit a snag, or at least I think I have.  After I set everything backup as far as the advertised services on the node that is attached to a server and rebooted the node, I find that when I goto the Mesh Status page that those services are not being advertised on the mesh status page.  Additionally, the DNS resolution for the name of the server (as set by the static IP address) doesn't seem to be working either.  I am able to get to other upgraded nodes by their names but nothing that is attached to them.  Suggestions?  Thoughts?  What did I do wrong/break?

Thanks in advance,

73,

Travis W9HDG

A bit moren details please on the layout,

Ubiquiti or Linksys ?

Mode (Direct or NAT)

saying the advertisement does to show up even on the local node it's set on correct ?  You can get (from a remote node) to the node that has the advertised service by name  but can't get to a name that's reserved on that node for a local system ?

My apologies, all of my nodes are Linksys nodes. When I view the mesh status page, none of the configured advertised services are listed/shown. When I try to access them by name (HdgCam for the example of an IP camera I have hooked to one of the nodes) I do not get a reply. NSLOOKUP will return not found. All of the nodes are configured for Direct. If I go into the node the camera is connected to and get its IP address, I can then access it via its IP address. It seems like the DNS forwarding isn't working or something. The DNS resolving only works for things that are connected directly to the node I'm connected to. So for example, if I plug a laptop into a node that has the IP camera on it, then I can access the camera by name. Anyway, I hope that helps.

Congratulations you found a bug.

The build had a significant amount of testing and tweaking and retesting and tweaking and retesting but this one slipped through.

Thank you for the report.  I will provide updated info as soon as I have it for you.

Version 1.1.1 has been released to resolve this issue and can be downloaded from the software download page.

Is there a file somewhere that shows what changes where made between versions? I don't understand why version 1.1.x is not compatible with 1.0.x?? I did a test upgrade and all of a sudden the 1.0.x nodes disappeared? There is no backward compatability? This is aweful for larger networks. Is there a FAQ or Doc on how to upgrade a network say with 25 or 50 nodes? Would you have to travel to each node site and do one bye one or can you perform upgrades over the mesh with the farthest points first working your way back? I don't understand why there is no compatability, did OLSR change or some other underlying way traffic is passed? A CHANGELOG would be nice as well as some kind of FAQ.

It might be better to start a new thread with your questions as they are not related to the original posters Inquiry. It helps keep the forum clean and easier to find information.

I'm not sure if 1.1.1 actually fixed the problem. Attached is the screenshot of my configuration setup for the 1.0.0 software. My computer interface is inet addr:172.27.0.5  Bcast:172.27.0.255  Mask:255.255.255.0.

With the 1.0.0 software everything worked. I could see all the nodes and get to them with my web browser as well as ping each 10.0.0.0/8 node. Not sure if there was some NAT going on in the router but it all worked.

With 1.1.1 I can only ping or access the local node, I can't ping or get to any attached node even though they show up as in the mesh. I can ssh into my local node and it can ping and see everyone but my computer on the lan can only see the local node.

Any ideas? Sounds like a NAT/MASQUERADE/Firewall change.?

Appears to be an unrelated issue.

I would suggest DIRECT mode until a fix comes out.

Version 1.1.2 has been released to resolve the issue described by Peter and is available from the downloads page and the Administration page of the node.

Thanks guys. I will give the new firmware a shot tomorrow and make sure the problem I originally reported has been resolved. Travis

No worries Andre, I'm happy to help. I will report back this evening once I get back from taking my kids to the zoo.
