										Good Presentation Jim!
Very interesting material you presented. Looks like an entirely new (to me anyway) part of ham radio. I think your Evansville TARS meeting will go well also. If I am not working, I usually make the TARS meetings, and will hopfully catch you again there.

											April 5th -- Digital Tuesday in Lucas,TX

										Two demos on the agenda for Tuesday night:
- Attaching an IP camera.

- Wireless access to your mesh by adding an access point, back-to-back, to a mesh node.

Bring your computer and a mesh node so you can participate.  Also bring anything HSMM-MESH, APRS or Winlink that you want to show for Show and Tell.
Meeting is at 7:00pm.  Location is  299 Connor Rd, Lucas, TX (33.076433N, 96.573173W).  Follow the driveway to the backyard gate, go around the pool to the pool house.  Our meeting is in there.
Looking forward to see y'all there!

											HSMM-MESH Node KC6SSM-101 Up and Running

										To all those who are interested, I've installed a HSMM-MESH node in the East Bay Berkeley Hills.

  Node Location: KCS66M-101
  SSID = HSMM-MESH
  Node Name = KC6SSM-101
  Frequency = 2.412Ghz (WiFi Channel 1)
  ERP = 38.47 Watts (Maximum Output)
Note: Does not include 8 meters of LMR-200 cable loss.

  Equipment:
  Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL (19dBm = 0.0794 Watts)
JJPlus BoosterPro2 BP2 (33dBm = 1.9952 Watts)
Alfa AOA-2415 15dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

  If you are able to connect to my node you will be able to look at installation pictures and stream music to test the usable throughput by selecting the TonidoPlug service.  The TonidoPlug is mini server which is attached to the router.

  To access the TonidolPlug login as a guest.
  UserName = guest
  Password = 12345678

  You can also access the TonidoPlug via the internet by using the following link.
  http://kc6ssm.tonidoid.com/ui/guest/index.html

Update: 4/16/11
Able to connect point to point 6.88 miles with identical setup on each side.
See map at web site above.

Questions and comments are always welcome.

										This unit is based on a Realtek chip, not a Broadcom chip. Currently HSMM-MESH firmware only runs on select versions of the Broadcom based WRT54G models. So although the system can have new firmware loaded, it is not supported by HSMM-MESH(tm) firmware at this time.

										Anyone know IF this unit can be flashed?  From the spec page, it has the right memory requirements but ...
A friend and I flashed a '54G and a 54GL this week and they do talk to each other.  We are trying to get HSMM-MESH going before hurricane season at Myrtle Beach.
Hope others join in the effort.  We did a demo last Sat and there is interest.

										Here in Henderson KY we will have our first Digital Tuesday on April 4th. This will be a demostration and hands on meeting to gauge the interest in HSMM. I am not sure how many will attend but from the talk it sounds like many want to learn more. After the meeting I will post some links to pictures.

										Well I did my part and wrote my representatives.
After a bunch of discussion, Doodle Labs mentioned they planned on releasing a model that specifically covers the ham spectrum. (see below)
They are still trying on getting a distributor lined up, and will be in touch with me and others who have contacted them as soon as that is done.

											Difficulty downloading dd-wrt in place of hsmm-mesh firmware

										I have successfully downloaded firmware version 0.4.1 into my WRT54GL router. I always like to be able to back out any firmware I download into the WRT54GL. I have tried numerous times to download something else into the router without success. The 0.4.1 firmware denies my attempts. The 0.4.1 firmware is alive and well and responds to any other command I submit to it.
So my question is what do I have to do to download into the WRT54GL the original Linksys firmware ro any other appropriate firmware?

										Glad your got your firmware updated like you wanted. HSMM-MESH may be what you want to work with in the long run, but that is up to you. You mentioned that you might try other firmware. DD-WRT, Open-WRT, Tomato, etc are all good firmware with a variety of features. Please note that all have to deal with various technical challenges and loading and unloading any firmware may get tedious very quickly. All those writing firmware for these routers with firmware that can be changed, have to deal with the same issues.
I have had to do some rather tedious things to update various versions of firmware. Once you get more practice with it, the easier it is, but I just wanted to point out, it is easy to get into a situation to were a new firmware load may take more than simply providing a file name to a menu choice.
Good luck with your firmware research.
-Glenn

										You might try asking in the Ubiquiti forums: http://www.ubnt.com/forum. As you probably know, ubiquiti hardware comes with either openWRT or AirOS installed, the latter being firmware developed by Ubiquiti. So, you are more likely to find non-ham help on Ubiquiti's forums. |
